It's the 13th Annual "Theme Attic" Thanksgiving Day Show!!!

When everyone is preparing to gather for Thanksgiving Day, maybe add a dollop of WHFR! Theme Attic, a show normally heard on Wednesdays, continues a holiday tradition for the 13th time on Thursday, November 28th, from 10AM-1PM EST.

Host Phil Maq will provide a musical main course that's loosely based on some Thanksgiving Day subjects along with some side orders that include several musical styles - some that are local, and one will be a very tasty Top 9 at 11:09 Countdown. Join in the fun and take us along!

WHFR Journal - Visual Loudmouths, Holiday Scam Alerts, and Coping Skills for Students at HFC

Tune in to the WHFR Journal tomorrow, November 22 at 1pm. This week's guests include educator and artist Sandra Murchison who will share info about the current exhibition, Visual Loudmouths, on display at the HFC Sisson Galley. We'll also chat with attorney and FTC representative Sammi Nachtigal about what to look out for by way of consumer scams this holiday season. We'll wrap the show with HFC Counselors Gwen Pringle and Deb Gates who will share info on the upcoming Coping session available to our HFC students in early December. "WHFR Presents" this Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

When we think of holiday music most people rush past Thanksgiving straight to Christmas and other winter holidays. As we approach the end of November, Bill Keith will host a special edition of WHFR Presents focusing on songs about Thanksgiving, Thankfulness, Gratitude, and the things we are thankful for.

Bill will mix in songs about many things he is thankful for including songs about love, music, baseball, and family. Get ready for Thanksgiving with a wonderful evening of music to kickstart your week.

This Sunday on "WHFR Presents"

The metro Detroit area has always been a vibrant scene for good music of all genres, including the Blues, Motown, Techno, and more. WHFR has been here to support that for almost 40 years. In the 1990s and 2000s we were lucky enough to receive a plethora of CDs of all kinds of indie rock for airplay.
A scene exploded with bands and artists that had a huge impact on music: Jack White in his early days, The Detroit Cobras, The Sights, The Go, The Demolition Doll Rods, just to name a few.

WHFR Journal: Epilepsy Awareness and Anxiety Tech, Friday at 1pm

Join us tomorrow, Friday, November 15 at 1pm for the WHFR Journal. We'll talk with Shannon Waid from the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan during this Epilepsy Awareness Month to share statistics, latest info, and ways to support those with Epilepsy. We'll also share a piece from PRX titled "Anxiety Tech: Gadgets to Chill You Out". If you don't have time to meditate or take a yoga class, some new technology products might help relieve stress and anxiety. Tune in and learn more about these important and interesting topics on the WHFR Journal.

WHFR Remembers Two Departed Giants Of Jazz

The jazz world has recently lost many of its elder statesmen in the music. Benny Golson and Quincy Jones are recent losses and now we mourn the loss of the great drummer ROY HAYNES and alto saxophonist LOU DONALDSON.

"Dear Harvey" and Veterans Day Special on WHFR Journal, Nov. 8 at 1pm

WHFR PRESENTS: Legendary Jazz Drummer Andrew Cyrille At 85

There's something about the vitality and spirit of many of our great drummers in music history. There's Roy Haynes at 99, Billy Hart at 83 and Han Bennink at 82 years of age. And then there's ANDREW CYRILLE. Andrew continues to amaze and create, propelling the music forward in his own groups as well as others. Mr. Cyrille refuses to let the music lay dormant, seeking to create new sounds and enrich the various ensembles he is involved with.

Remembering The Blues: "Ambassador of the Blues: Life Celebration of Steve Soviak"

On November 3rd, 2024, the "Ambassador of the Blues: Life Celebration of Steve Soviak" took place at the Token Lounge, in Westland. Many great Blues Musicians were "Keeping The Blues Alive" here, in Michigan, in appreciation for this Man's great love and dedication to Local Area Blues Music.

This fantastic concert lineup opened with solo-acoustic guitar musical performances by Howard Glazer and Leonardo Gianola. Big Daddy Fox followed the acoustic sets with a set of electric guitar-accompanied soulful vocals. Laith Al-Saadi followed with his guitar and voice.

This Sunday On Hotwax Radio

This Sunday, starting at 7:00pm, the White Rabbit and Hotwax Radio will be saluting our nation’s veterans with a special show. The Armed Forces, mushroom clouds, bugle calls, bootcamp, draft mornings, and a host of other military tributes will be offered to give a heartfelt thanks to those who serve or have served.
