Scott Boatright Returns With "Cold Radio Fusion"!

Hello everyone. I first started my WHFR radio career in the spring of '98. A world of musical and personal possibilities was opened to me. Since then, I have been a DJ for many shows, Head Music Director, Promotions Coordinator, and organized and planned many fundraiser events for the station. I have left and come back for various reasons, including Covid, and now I am excited to be back.

Seeing Sounds And Hearing Colors: It's Another WHFR Theme Week

A vivid spectrum of colorful sounds will travel the airwaves as WHFR Radio presents another theme week, this time celebrating fall colors. The landscape of Michigan bursts with colors every October and the programming at WHFR will try to match that intensity with a spectrum of colors of their own.

It was 1969 and rock and roll music was witnessing a surge in progressive music, as artists were incorporating influences from a wide range of genres such as jazz, classical, world and avant-garde stylings. At the forefront of this movement was the band King Crimson, led by guitarist and composer Robert Fripp.

Tune into the WHFR Journal tomorrow (Friday), Sept. 27 at 1pm as we discuss a project to help provide gently used bikes to children in need. "Free Bikes 4 Kids" Board Member Larry Fieroh will discuss the program and the collection that will take place on Saturday here in metro-Detroit. We'll also chat with HFC Licensed Counselor Deb Gates and Student Activities Assistant Kayla Collins about what HFC is doing to honor Mental Health Awareness Month here in September and ways to support our students and community at large.

Play It By Ear Pays Tribute To Sax Legend Benny Golson

Tune in for a special show on Sunday, September 29, as we visit the music of the late Benny Golson.

Born January 25, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA, he began learning to play piano at the age of nine and switched to sax at age fourteen.

He was a childhood friend of John Coltrane, among others, and when he learned about the death of trumpeter, Clifford Brown, he was moved to write a composition “I Remember Clifford” that is a jazz standard.
