VIRTUAL ONLINE FUNDRAISER: A Different Kind of Dearborn Homecoming August 7-9; SUPPORT WHFR AND 20 OTHER LOCAL CHARITIES

Typically around this time of year, WHFR would be preparing to participate in Dearborn Homecoming and inviting you to visit our tents at the festival to meet your favorite DJs, peruse our purged CD collection, and grab some free WHFR swag. This year we are asking you to do something that is not quite so interactive, but is sure to be just as entertaining: attend the Dearborn Homecoming Virtual Online Fundraiser, taking place 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. on August 7th, 8th & 9th.

Support Independent Music and WHFR on Bandcamp Friday July 3

Once again Bandcamp is waiving their fees for all purchases made on their site Friday July 3, 2020. This means anything purchased that day, the full purchase amount goes to that artist and/or independent label putting out that release. Many of the artist WHFR supports sell their music on Bandcamp and we even sell our release Motor City Gems on the site. Support independent music and WHFR by making a Bandcamp purchase on Friday July 3rd. Links located below.

11am: Big Picture Science - Soap, Skin, Sleep
Some safeguards against COVID-19 don’t require a medical breakthrough. Catching sufficient Z’s makes for a healthy immune system. And, while you wash your hands for the umpteenth time, we'll explain how soap sends viruses down the drain. Plus, your body’s largest organ – skin – is your first line of defense against the pandemic and is also neglected because of it. Find out why we're suffering from "skin hunger" during this crisis.

From the Desk of the WHFR Music Director Alex Jags

Here are this week's top 5 adds for week ending June 9th:

1) Kyle Avallone – Last Minute Man

Support Independent Music - Friday June 5 Bandcamp Supports Artist during the COVID-19 Pandemic

WHFR's mission is to play local, independent and music little heard elsewhere on the radio dial. COVID-19 has had a great effect on the musicians just like it has had a great effect on our WHFR broadcasts. While WHFR is not producing local programming, we will keep you posted when HFC will let our DJs back on-the-air, we want to continue to support the musicians we play and fit our mission. Bandcamp is a website that many musicians use to let people stream music, download, and even purchase physical copies of their music.

WHFR Classical 24 Programming for Next 3 Weeks During Stay Home, Stay Safe Michigan Executive Order

WHFR has been in trying to stay business as usual during the COVID-19 Pandemic but we have to put the healthy and safety of our WHFR volunteer staff first. Once Gov. Whitmer issued the Michigan-wide “Sheter-In-Place” order, WHFR and Henry Ford College made the decision to have all of our volunteers to stay at home and have our Classical 24 service run 24/7 for the next three weeks. We hope we will be able to back to live local programming after April 13. Enjoy the classical music and thanks for supporting WHFR.

WHFR is Business As Usual (Mostly) During Current Era of Working From Home, School Closures and Fear of COVID-19

WHFR has a commitment to serve the Dearborn-Detroit community providing music and talk shows that are an alternative to other broadcasters on the radio dial. We will continue this commitment to providing live and local programming while making sure the station is still safe for our volunteers. Many of our shows will be business and usual and you will not notice much of a difference from our programming. BUT, there might be times you will hear Classical 24 when a live DJ is on, another DJ filling in, or a pre-recorded show.
